“The History of the Appleseed and Fenton Family”
The Appleseed Restaurant was once a home and a barn. However, not a great deal is known about the history of the property and its structure. The building was once used as a bed and breakfast and was operated as the Lakeside Inn. In the days of past, the trains from Boston and further south that brought visitors to Lake Sunapee and beyond, rolled right past our doors. When Peter and Mary Beth Fenton purchased the building in 1977, it was called the Appleseed Inn. The exact origin of the name is unknown but they later changed the name to the Appleseed Restaurant to more accurately reflect its operations. Pete and Mary Beth raised their two sons, Pete (RePete) and Tim in the restaurant and both are still intimately involved. You can find RePete in the kitchen and behind the scenes, and Tim managing Sunapee Cruises. After providing the catering for Sunapee Cruises for several years the Fenton family, became the owners and operators of the two boats in 2003: Sunapee Cruises. The MV Mount Sunapee II tour boat and the MV Kearsarge restaurant ship cruise the waters of Lake Sunapee from Memorial Day to Columbus Day. In 2016 Fenton’s Landing, a seasonal deli in Sunapee Harbor, joined the growing Appleseed Family. In 2017 the Fenton’s celebrated both the arrival of twins Colton and Carter Fenton, and in 2020, they welcomed the arrival of Cooper. All of who will make sure that “Appleseed Love” continues to be far and wide for another generation. This year The Fenton’s are celebrating their 45th anniversary!
